West-Central Africa Rain Slowly Improving Coffee, Cacao

Kansas City, September 15 (World Weather Inc.) – Seasonal rains have been slow to return to west-central Africa this year after shifting far to the north in late July and early August. Dryness that has occurred in recent weeks has led to concern over the success of flowering for the mid-crops of coffee and cacao which will be harvested in the second quarter of 2026. Precipitation was also needed for the main season crops which will be harvested late this year and into early 2026. Rain during the weekend and late last week in parts of Ghana and Benin was welcome and sufficient enough to induce greatly improved topsoil moisture, but Ivory Coast and western Ghana are still too dry.

Ivory Coast, Southern Ghana Seasonal Rain Returning Late

Kansas City, September 3 (World Weather Inc.) – Coffee, cacao, sugarcane, rice and other crops produced from central and southern parts of Ivory Coast through much of Ghana to southern Benin and some Nigeria locations will slowly get some needed rain in the next couple of weeks. Seasonal rainfall has been slow in returning to the region after shifting normally to the north in late July and August. The dry season was more dominating and long lasting than usual, but relief is expected by mid-September which may help to stimulate new flowering for coffee and cacao to support the start of next year’s mid-crop development. The impact of longer than usual dryness is still being accessed with the main coffee and cacao crops at risk of some impact along with sugarcane, rice and a few others.

WORLD SUGAR WEATHER: Brazil, Southern India Drying Out

Kansas City – September 12 (World Weather, Inc.) – Sugar production areas around the world are dealing with some moisture shortages that could cut into production during the coming year. Brazil soil moisture is quite limited, although the rainy season has not begun yet and there is plenty of time for improved rainfall. Southern and west-central India has recently begun to dry down and that, too, may have the market’s attention for a little while. Southern Indonesia is also experiencing some less than usual rain along with Ukraine and portions of Russia’s beet production area. Thailand has also had some stressful weather at times this year.
