Special Situation Stories
By far, the single most important part of the weather services that World Weather, Inc. provides is its special weather situation stories. These are weather issues that will drive long term commodity prices and will determine future trends in crop production and basic supply and demand.
Kansas City, March 30 (World Weather, Inc.) – Rainfall during the weekend was mostly confined to areas from Espirito Santo into eastern Bahia. Net drying occurred in many other areas and temperatures were close to normal. Weather conditions are unlikely to change much during the next week to ten days. Scattered showers will be possible in many coffee areas at one time or another; though, the daily coverage is not likely to be widespread. Some areas will experience a little drying and temperatures should be held to a seasonable range.
Kansas City, March 27 (World Weather Inc.) – Drought continues to expand and intensify across a large section of the United States. Precipitation during the past week favored the Pacific Northwest and portions of the eastern Midwest while a high-pressure ridge promoted dry or mostly dry weather in the remaining agricultural areas. With planting season rapidly approaching, the need for significant rain is high for a large section of the country. Winter grain areas are also in need of rain to improve development conditions. The ridge will continue to restrict precipitation through the end of the weekend before a series of disturbances advances across central and eastern North America next week. Rain will impact the U.S. Delta and portions of the eastern Midwest and southeastern states with some improved soil moisture. The Plains and western Midwest will receive limited precipitation and will continue to dry down. Rainfall will be too light to completely erase the drought, even in areas that receive the greatest amount of precipitation. The need for abundant rainfall will remain high heading into mid-April.
Kansas City, March 26 (World Weather Inc.) – Portions of South Africa’s summer crop region saw several waves of rain during the past week while other areas were either dry or experienced net drying. The rain helped maintain a good environment for aggressive late-season coarse grain, oilseed, and cotton development. Yields remain relatively favorable due to timely rain over the growing season. Early-season planting prospects for winter grains and oilseeds are also favorable, though timely rain must continue over the next month to maintain the best planting moisture. South Africa will see a good mix of rain and sunshine during the coming week that will maintain favorable development conditions and support early soybean harvesting. Drier periods will be needed later in April as the bulk of summer crops mature and get ready for harvesting.
Kansas City, March 26 (World Weather Inc.) – Despite trending warmer than usual during the past month, much of eastern and central Europe are too cold to support much winter grain and oilseed growth. Crop development is under way in the Iberian Peninsula and portions of southern France, Italy, and neighboring areas. Most crop areas have ample moisture to support favorable development once seasonal warming occurs; however, many areas in Western and central Europe will trend cooler than usual during the coming week. New growth will be minimal due to the lack of significant daytime heating. Precipitation will vary across Europe during this time with waves of precipitation slated for the Balkans region while western parts of the continent are driest.
